Ottawa Ankle Rules Review
The ‘Ottawa Ankle Rules’ were established to help determine which patients require an x-ray following an ankle injury. Ankle sprains are a very common occurrence, almost everyone will experience at some point in their lives. Physiotherapists and Physicians are the primary health care practitioners sought when someone sustains an ankle fracture. Traditionally most of these patients would receive an ankle x-ray to rule out a fracture, significantly adding to healthcare costs, despite the fact that only a very small percentage of these patients have a clinically significant fracture.
